CELEBRATING MOTHERS ACROSS CULTURES

As a student of Anthropology, I enjoyed nothing more than exploring the rich diversity in ethnographies of women throughout the world.  I was fascinated in the deep universal connection all mothers seem to share during the childbearing years.  I was awed at the creativity displayed by women in other cultures in their balance of domestic and non domestic work.  I was intrigued by the words and images created of mothers (usually via male artists) from ancient times.

I yearned to be part of a culture that treated women and children as equally as men, that honored the earth, and that collectively understood and honored phenomena now labelled as "collective consciousness," energy healing, telepathy, and psycho-spiritual, mystical experiences.  Through my all my studies, I came to a beautiful place of profound appreciation for female creative intelligence and wisdom.  Still today, incredible stories of mothers protecting and nurturing their children continually amaze me.

Needless to say, women and their children have been getting the short end of the stick throughout the world for some time now to say the very least.  STILL WE THRIVE.  WE LAUGH.  WE SING.  WE DANCE.  WE RAISE OUR CHILDREN WITH WISDOM and GRACE.  WE HOLD THE POWER OF SHAKTI.  WE HOLD PURE JOY and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

Pictures truly do say at least a thousand words.  Here is a small collection of beautiful images celebrating mothers across cultures.  I am so inspired by mothers in different countries that have to continually rely on their creativity to survive in deteriorating conditions.

I love sharing images of beautiful women and children.  Please share this collection with the mothers you love!  Please share the images of mothers you love in the comments below.
